Deoghar’s senior women’s Sepak Takraw team left for Giridih on Friday to compete in the ninth Jharkhand State Senior Sepak Takraw Championship 2026, scheduled to be held on October 10 and 11 at the indoor stadium.

Before the team’s departure, District Sports Association secretary Ashish Jha and District Sepak Takraw Association secretary Pramesh Rao met the players, encouraged them and wished them success in the state-level competition.

The six-member team comprises Nidhi Rani Kumari, Afreen Khatoon, Najmin Khatoon, Lalita Kumari, Nisha Kumari and Deeppriya Kumari. The players will represent Deoghar in the championship, which provides a platform for athletes to demonstrate their skills and compete against teams from across Jharkhand.

In a gesture of support for women’s sports, Dr Rajiv Ranjan of Deoghar Dental Clinic sponsored new jerseys for the team. He also assured the players of continued encouragement and promised to gift them sports shoes if they win the gold medal.

Officials of the District Sepak Takraw Association expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and hoped the players would put up a strong performance and bring recognition to Deoghar.

The support from local sports officials and the clinic highlights the role that community participation and local sponsorship can play in encouraging athletes and helping them pursue their sporting ambitions.
