
Ranchi: The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Ranchi successfully concluded its three-day annual sports fest, CONCOURS’26, on October 3, with enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members in a range of sporting competitions and cultural activities.
Organised from October 1 to 3, the fest aimed to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline and healthy competition among members of the institute community.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by IIIT Ranchi Director Prof. Rajeev Srivastava, faculty members and students. It featured a march past by participating teams, lighting of the Sports Mashaal by the director, a ceremonial torch run, cultural performances by Saaz and Nrityaraashi, and the Sports Oath administered on behalf of the athletes by the Sports Joint Secretary.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Srivastava highlighted the role of sports in developing discipline, teamwork and resilience. He said sports and extracurricular activities are important for the overall development of students and help prepare them to face challenges.
The fest featured competitions in cricket, badminton, volleyball, football, basketball, kabaddi, table tennis, carrom, chess, e-sports and athletics. Special events for faculty members were also organised to encourage wider participation.
The closing ceremony on October 3 included the felicitation of winners of individual, team and faculty events. Participants securing first, second and third positions were presented prizes. The institute also recognised Dr Rohit Kandula, Dr Ankita Kumari and Dr Amit Kumar Singh, Faculty In-Charge of Sports, for their contribution to the successful conduct of the fest.
The concluding programme featured performances by Alfaaz, Abhinay, Nrityaraashi and Saaz, followed by a jamming session and a performance by the Misfits Band. Abhinay’s presentation of Bhag Milkha Bhag was among the highlights.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and the National Anthem. The institute said the successful conduct of CONCOURS’26 reflected the collective efforts of its administration, faculty, students, coordinators, volunteers, referees and participants.
