JVM Shyamali trains 70 teachers in scientific thinking and critical reasoning

Jawahar Vidya Mandir (JVM), Shyamali, organised a one-day in-house training workshop for teachers under the aegis of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), focusing on the importance of developing a scientific temperament among educators and students.

Around 70 trainee teachers of the school participated in the workshop, which was inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp. Vice Principal Anupama Srivastava, School Coordinator Sushmita Mishra, Training Nodal Officer Indrajeet Kumar, resource person and keynote speaker Somen Dey, Secondary Section In-charge Shileshwar Jha 'Sushil', Primary Section In-charge Deepak Sinha and Mamta Das were present on the occasion.

During the nearly five-hour training programme, Somen Dey discussed eight key modules related to scientific temperament. The sessions covered India's scientific heritage, the influence of superstition and pseudoscience, critical thinking and logical reasoning.

The participants also discussed ways to incorporate scientific thinking into everyday life and make classroom teaching more experimental, practical and activity-oriented. Audio-visual material, experiments, quizzes and interactive sessions were used to make the training engaging and participatory.

Training Nodal Officer Indrajeet Kumar said scientific temperament should not be viewed as something limited to laboratories or scientific inventions. He stressed the need to approach subjects and everyday issues through logical and scientific reasoning.

Vice Principal Anupama Srivastava said teachers have an important role in fostering scientific awareness in society. She encouraged the participants to apply the knowledge and approaches gained during the workshop in their classroom teaching.

The workshop concluded with the participating teachers taking a pledge to incorporate scientific thinking into their daily lives as well as their teaching practices.
