Ranchi traffic police tighten vigil on blacked-out windows, fancy number plates

Ranchi traffic police are preparing for stricter enforcement on the city's roads ahead of the upcoming festive season and a cricket match scheduled in October, with a particular focus on vehicles violating road safety and motor vehicle regulations.

A strategy to manage the expected increase in traffic and prevent congestion was discussed at a meeting chaired by Traffic SP Rakesh Singh. Officials were directed to make advance arrangements for the additional traffic expected during festivals and the cricket match.

The traffic police will pay special attention to vehicles that have been illegally modified or equipped with prohibited accessories. Action under the Motor Vehicles Act will be taken against vehicles using blacked-out or excessively tinted windows, fancy number plates, modified silencers and pressure horns.

Vehicles whose registration numbers are deliberately concealed using tape or displayed in an improper format will also come under the enforcement drive. Authorities are expected to intensify checks to ensure that registration plates remain clearly visible and comply with prescribed standards.

The traffic police will also step up action against speeding, drunk driving and overloading. Vehicles being driven by minors will also be targeted as part of the enforcement campaign.

Auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers will also be required to follow designated rules. Drivers will have to wear prescribed uniforms, while vehicles found obstructing traffic near traffic posts, at intersections or on roads where the left lane is required to remain free will face action.

The emphasis on advance enforcement comes as Ranchi prepares for a period when road traffic is expected to rise substantially. Officials are focusing not only on managing congestion but also on preventing traffic violations that can create additional risks on already busy roads.

With festivals and a major cricket event expected to bring more people and vehicles onto Ranchi's roads, the traffic police are aiming to keep traffic moving while ensuring that motorists comply with safety and vehicle regulations.
