Students of the Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls’ School in Satgawan block of Koderma district took to the streets on Wednesday, protesting against what they alleged were serious shortcomings in the school’s food and education facilities.

A large number of students marched towards the block headquarters carrying placards and raising concerns over the condition of the residential school. During the march, several students reportedly fainted, with heat and exhaustion believed to have contributed to their condition. They were subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.

The students alleged that the quality of food being served at the school has remained poor for a long time. They also claimed that the education system at the institution has not been functioning properly. According to the students, repeated complaints to the authorities failed to bring about any meaningful improvement.

The students had also raised the issue on August 15, when a protest and commotion were reported at the school. At the time, the Block Development Officer had reportedly assured them that the problems would be addressed. However, the students claimed that the situation did not improve, prompting them to organise the latest march.

After reaching the block headquarters, the students sought the intervention of officials and demanded an immediate inspection of the school. They called for improvements in the quality of food being provided to students and the overall teaching arrangements.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the conditions at residential schools, where students depend on the institution not only for education but also for food and accommodation. Any prolonged shortcomings in these basic facilities can directly affect the health, attendance and academic progress of students.

The affected students are currently undergoing treatment. The administration's response to the allegations and whether an inspection of the school will be ordered will be closely watched.
