BJP national secretary and Jharkhand Rajya Sabha MP Dr Pradeep Kumar Verma received a warm welcome from party workers and members of various social organisations when he arrived in Ranchi for the first time after taking up his new national responsibility.

A large number of BJP office-bearers, elected representatives, leaders of different party fronts and workers gathered at Ranchi airport to welcome Verma. Party workers greeted him with garlands and bouquets as he arrived in the state capital.

Speaking to the media, Verma said the responsibility entrusted to him by the party leadership was both an honour and a major responsibility. He expressed gratitude to BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, Jharkhand BJP president Aditya Sahu, Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi and senior party leaders and workers for their support.

Verma said his appointment should not be viewed merely as a personal recognition. According to him, the national responsibility also reflects the affection, support and hard work of BJP workers in Jharkhand.

“BJP is a cadre-based organisation where workers are given important responsibilities on the basis of their dedication and hard work,” he said.

Strengthening organisation will be top priority

Verma said his foremost priority as a national secretary would be to make the organisation stronger, more active and more extensive. He said he would work with complete commitment and dedication to further the party's organisational objectives and its goal of national service.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining strong coordination between the organisation and its workers while expanding the party's reach.

BJP attacks Hemant Soren government over students' issue

Verma also criticised the Hemant Soren government over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and the ongoing concerns raised by students.

He questioned why the state government had not agreed to a CBI investigation into the matter despite cancelling the examination following pressure from protesting students.

“If the government is clear about the matter, there should be no reason to shy away from an impartial investigation,” Verma said, adding that a CBI probe could help establish what happened, determine whether irregularities took place and identify those responsible.

He said the BJP would not allow the future of Jharkhand's youth to be compromised. The party, he added, would continue to raise issues concerning justice, transparency and a fair examination system “from the streets to the Assembly”.

Several BJP leaders and workers were present at the airport welcome programme, including Mayor Roshni Khalkho, Deputy Mayor Neeraj Kumar, state minister Amit Singh, Rural District president Dheeraj Mahto, city president Varun Sahu, former MLA Ram Kumar Pahan, media co-in-charge Ajay Rai, state spokesperson Aarti Kujur, K.K. Gupta, Subodh Singh Guddu and Yuva Morcha president Shashank Raj.
