
Ranchi: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi inaugurated a five-day Management Development Programme (MDP) on Project Management and Execution Excellence for executives of Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (PVUN) and NTPC. The programme began with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony and Saraswati Vandana in the presence of senior officials from IIM Ranchi, NTPC and PVUN.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Prof. Amit Sachan, Dean, Executive Education and Consulting, outlined the objectives of the programme, stating that it has been designed to strengthen the strategic and managerial capabilities of executives to effectively handle evolving project challenges.
Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, Director, IIM Ranchi, emphasized that successful project management is driven by an organisation’s mission, vision and core values. He highlighted the role of educational institutions in supporting Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) through capacity building and said modern management requires strategic thinking, adaptability and the ability to integrate multiple disciplines for sustainable growth.

Addressing the participants, Shri Ashok Kumar Sehgal, CEO, PVUN Patratu, said the programme aims to develop the next generation of project leaders. He stressed the importance of continuous learning and identified Safety, Speed and Sustainability as the three pillars of an efficient workplace.
Shri K. Shanmugha Sundaram, Chairman, PVUN and Director (Projects), NTPC Ltd., highlighted NTPC’s leadership in the energy sector and underscored the need for project managers to upgrade their skills in line with changing market dynamics and emerging energy technologies, including renewable energy.
Programme Director Prof. Manish Bansal introduced the five-day curriculum, which focuses on industry-oriented project management practices and leadership development. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Nitin Singh, who welcomed more than 30 executives from NTPC and PVUN plants across the country and encouraged them to actively participate in the programme for enhanced professional growth.
