Police Team Attacked with Stones and Crude Bombs During Drunk-Driving Crackdown in Dhanbad

New Delhi: A routine police drive against drunk driving turned violent in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district after a police patrol team came under attack with stones and crude country-made bombs in the Jharia area, triggering panic among local residents.

The incident occurred near Katras More on Sunday evening when police were conducting an anti-drink-and-drive campaign. According to officials, the patrol team reached a liquor shop where several people were allegedly drinking alcohol in public and gathering around the premises. The officers asked them to disperse, leading to an argument.

The situation quickly escalated as some people allegedly resisted the police action. Soon, a group of anti-social elements reportedly began pelting stones at the police vehicle, forcing the officers to take cover.

The attackers then allegedly hurled two crude country-made bombs, commonly known as 'sutli bombs', near the police team. The explosions created panic in the area, prompting shopkeepers to close their businesses while pedestrians rushed to safer places.

Following the incident, additional police personnel from Jharia Police Station and nearby police stations rushed to the spot. The area was secured, and the situation was brought under control without further escalation.

To reassure residents and maintain public order, police carried out a flag march from Katras More to Singh Nagar. Security was tightened across the locality, with intensified patrolling continuing late into the night to prevent any fresh disturbances.

Police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from nearby locations to identify those involved in the attack. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused.

Officials said the situation is now under control and assured that strict legal action will be taken against everyone found responsible for attacking the police team and disrupting public peace.

The administration has appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with the investigation, and avoid spreading rumours, while enhanced security arrangements remain in place across the area.
