Congress Demands Transparency in Ram Temple Donations, Says 'Lord Ram Belongs to Everyone, Not Any Political Party'

Ranchi: Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) State Spokesperson Vijay Shankar Nayak on Friday criticised BJP State President Aditya Sahu over his recent remarks that the Congress has no moral right to speak on the Ram Temple, calling the statement "unfortunate" and contrary to democratic values.

Addressing the media, Nayak said that instead of questioning the Congress's faith, the BJP should respond to public concerns regarding donations received for the construction of the Ram Temple, financial transparency, and accountability. He asserted that raising questions in a democracy is a constitutional right and cannot be dismissed through political rhetoric or intimidation.

"Lord Shri Ram is a symbol of truth, justice, righteousness and India's civilisational values. He belongs to every Indian, not to any political party," Nayak said, adding that no party has the authority to question the faith or patriotism of those seeking transparency in matters involving public donations.

Referring to information available in the public domain, Nayak said the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust had received donations worth thousands of crores from devotees across India and abroad. He maintained that when such large public contributions are involved, periodic disclosure of financial accounts, expenditure details, and independent audit reports should be ensured to maintain public confidence.

He also referred to the 2021 controversy surrounding certain land transactions linked to the Ram Temple project in Ayodhya, noting that while allegations were denied by the Trust, transparency remains the best way to address public concerns.

Nayak urged the BJP to support regular public disclosure of financial statements, major contracts and expenditure related to the temple project if it truly believes in transparency and ethical public life.

"Politics in the name of Lord Ram must end. Instead of attacking the Opposition, the BJP should answer the nation's questions and strengthen public trust through transparency and accountability," he said.
