
Deoghar: As part of preparations for State Shravani Mela 2026, the Deoghar Municipal Corporation launched a major anti-encroachment drive near the Interstate Bus Terminal and removed 56 illegally erected shops from public land and roadsides.The civic body said the drive was carried out to ensure smooth traffic movement, maintain law and order and provide adequate space for the lakhs of devotees expected to visit the temple town during the month-long festival.Officials warned encroachers against reoccupying public spaces and made it clear that illegal encroachment on government land and roadsides would not be tolerated under any circumstances. Following the operation, traffic conditions around the bus terminal improved significantly and sufficient space was created for the movement of pilgrims and local residents.The Municipal Corporation said the drive would continue and the remaining illegal structures in the area would also be removed to make the entire zone completely encroachment-free. Necessary instructions have already been issued to the concerned officials and police personnel for further action.The civic body appealed to shopkeepers and residents to voluntarily remove encroachments from public places and cooperate with the administration in maintaining order during the festival.The operation was conducted under the leadership of City Manager Satish Kumar. Sanitary and Food Inspector Sunil Kumar Mehta, Sanitary Inspector Deepak Kumar Mahto, Home Guard personnel of the Municipal Corporation and police personnel from the Traffic Police Station actively participated in the drive.The Municipal Corporation reiterated that the safety of devotees, cleanliness and uninterrupted traffic movement remain its top priorities during Shravani Mela 2026. Similar anti-encroachment drives will continue at major roads, bus stands, temple areas and other sensitive locations to ensure that devotees from across the country and abroad do not face any inconvenience during their visit to Deoghar.
