

Deoghar: In a major crackdown on the illegal narcotics trade, Deoghar Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized 13 packets of brown sugar along with a pickup vehicle from the Dudhkothi area under the Town police station limits.Police Inspector-cum-Town Police Station In-charge Ravi Thakur said a tip-off was received around 10 pm on Wednesday that two persons travelling in a pickup vehicle from Mohanpur were supplying brown sugar in the Town and Rikhia police station areas. The information also suggested that their activities were pushing several youths in the area towards drug addiction.Acting on the information, a special raiding team was constituted under the leadership of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) on the directions of Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar. A vehicle checking drive was subsequently launched near the Dudhkothi weighbridge on the Deoghar-Dumka main road.
During the operation, police intercepted pickup vehicle number JH15V7677 and conducted a search. Seven packets of brown sugar were recovered from the possession of the driver, Mahanand Yadav, a resident of Nayadih under Mohanpur police station. Six more packets were recovered from Chandan Kumar Mandal, a resident of Maheshmara under Rikhia police station, who was sitting in the front seat of the vehicle.
Police seized a total of 13 packets of brown sugar weighing 2.41 grams and also impounded the pickup vehicle allegedly being used for transporting and supplying the narcotics.A case has been registered at Deoghar Town Police Station as Case No. 265/2026 dated July 9, 2026. The accused have been booked under Section 317(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Sections 21(a), 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Further legal proceedings are underway.The raiding team included the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar), Town Police Station In-charge Ravi Thakur, Sub-Inspectors Sumant Prasad, Mithilesh Kumar, Shankar Kumar Rajak, Mukesh Kumar Tiwari, Assistant Sub-Inspector Bhushan Ekka and personnel of the armed police force.
