Jharkhand-Bihar Police Step Up Coordination for Shravani Mela 2026

Deoghar: In view of the upcoming Shravani Mela 2026, the police authorities of Jharkhand and Bihar have intensified coordination to ensure the safe and smooth movement of pilgrims. An inter-state traffic coordination meeting was held on July 7 at Chandan police station in Bihar's Banka district, where several key decisions were taken to manage the anticipated rush of Kanwariyas.
The meeting was attended by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Belhar, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Sadar Deoghar, the Circle Inspector of Banka, and the Station House Officers of Belhar, Jasidih, Rikhia, Chandan and Katoria police stations.Officials decided that if the five holding points created in Jharkhand become full due to an increase in the number of pilgrims, additional devotees will be halted in Bihar itself to regulate the flow of pilgrims and prevent overcrowding. The meeting also focused on the risk posed by overloaded double-decker and triple-decker vehicles carrying Kanwariyas from different districts of Bihar. Considering the possibility of road accidents, it was decided that such vehicles carrying passengers beyond their permitted capacity would be stopped within Bihar and would not be allowed to proceed further.
Police officials said the coordinated measures are aimed at preventing accidents, maintaining traffic discipline and ensuring a safe and hassle-free pilgrimage for devotees during Shravani Mela 2026.
