Kolhan Gets New Police Chiefs Amid Push to Reinforce Law & Order

Jamshedpur: In a significant administrative overhaul aimed at strengthening policing in the Kolhan region, the Jharkhand government has appointed new police chiefs for East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan, two districts that have witnessed heightened concerns over law and order in recent weeks.

Senior IPS officer Ehtesham Waqarib has assumed charge as the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of East Singhbhum. He took over the reins at the district police headquarters in Jamshedpur late on Wednesday, where he was received by senior officers and police personnel. Shortly after taking charge, Waqarib reviewed key administrative matters and held discussions with officials on policing priorities.

His appointment comes at a crucial juncture, with East Singhbhum witnessing a spate of violent crimes, including repeated chopper attacks and the sensational Himanshu Singh murder case, which have raised serious concerns over public safety.

Police sources said the new SSP is expected to focus on curbing organised crime, improving response mechanisms, intensifying preventive policing, and ensuring better coordination among all police units.

In another key posting, the government has named Manoj Swargiary, a 2018-batch IPS officer and former Jamtara SP, as the new Superintendent of Police (SP) of Seraikela-Kharsawan. He replaces Nidhi Dwivedi following the recent administrative reshuffle.

Swargiary takes charge at a time when Seraikela-Kharsawan has also come under the spotlight over its law-and-order situation, particularly in the aftermath of the Himanshu Singh murder that triggered widespread public outrage and sharp criticism from political parties and civil society groups.

His immediate priorities are expected to include strengthening intelligence gathering, accelerating investigations into pending criminal cases, and restoring public confidence in policing.
Regarded as a disciplined and result-oriented officer, Swargiary has earned a reputation for effective crime control and efficient field policing during his previous assignments.

His experience is expected to bolster policing in one of Jharkhand's key industrial districts. The twin appointments are being viewed as part of the state's broader strategy to tighten policing in the Kolhan region, improve crime control, and reinforce public confidence in the law enforcement machinery at a time when maintaining law and order has emerged as one of the government's foremost priorities.
