Youth Arrested With Brown Sugar in Deoghar, Police Intensify Anti-Drug Drive

Deoghar: In a major crackdown on the illegal drug trade, Deoghar Police arrested a young man allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of brown sugar and recovered narcotics from his possession. The action was carried out as part of the district-wide campaign aimed at making Deoghar drug-free.According to police, Superintendent of Police Deoghar received specific information on June 7 that a person carrying brown sugar had arrived in Deoghar by a bus from Bhagalpur and was moving suspiciously near the main Banka Road in front of Manokamna Sai Temple at Sai Vikas Nagar.Acting on the tip-off, the Superintendent of Police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Sadar. The team immediately launched a raid at the indicated location and detained a suspect for questioning.During a lawful search, police recovered approximately 12.02 grams of brown sugar from the possession of the accused. The arrested individual was identified as Chhotu Kumar, 22, son of Lalu Mandal, a resident of Sabour in Bhagalpur district of Bihar. A Vivo mobile phone was also seized during the operation.Following the recovery, police registered Jasidih Police Station Case No. 195/2026 dated June 7, 2026, under Section 111(2)(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Section 20(b) of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway.
Police officials said the campaign against narcotics will continue across the district and strict action will be taken against those involved in the illegal drug trade. The raiding team included the SDPO (Sadar), Jasidih Police Station Officer-in-Charge Deepak Kumar, Technical Branch In-Charge Sandeep Krishna, and other police personnel from the technical cell and armed force.
