Jamshedpur : Ranchi is set to strengthen its domestic air connectivity with plans underway to introduce direct flight services to Raipur, Varanasi and Guwahati from Birsa Munda Airport. Airport authorities have approached various airlines to explore the launch of operations on these routes in response to growing passenger demand.
At present, travellers heading to these destinations from Ranchi are largely dependent on connecting flights through hubs such as Delhi and Kolkata, resulting in longer travel times and higher costs. The proposed direct services are expected to significantly improve convenience for passengers.
The move has received support from trade bodies, social organisations and public representatives, who have long advocated improved air connectivity between Jharkhand and key cities in central, eastern and northeastern India. Demand for travel on these routes is driven by business activities, educational pursuits, tourism and religious pilgrimages.
Airport officials believe the three sectors have sufficient passenger potential to sustain regular flight operations. Enhanced connectivity with Raipur, Guwahati and Varanasi is expected to provide a boost to commerce, tourism and employment opportunities while making inter-state travel more efficient.
A direct Ranchi-Varanasi flight, in particular, is likely to benefit devotees visiting the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, eliminating the need for time-consuming transit journeys.Airlines are currently evaluating passenger demand and commercial feasibility on the proposed routes.
Once assessments are completed and approvals secured, flight schedules could be announced in the coming months, further expanding Ranchi’s aviation network and strengthening its links with major regions across the country.
