Election Commission Announces Rajya Sabha Elections in Jharkhand for Two Seats

Ranchi: The Election Commission has declared the schedule for Rajya Sabha elections to 24 seats across India, with polling scheduled for June 18. Candidates can file their nominations until June 8. These elections are being held for seats whose current members are set to retire between June and July 2026.

In Jharkhand, elections will be held for two Rajya Sabha seats. One seat is becoming vacant after the tenure of BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Deepak Prakash comes to an end, while the second seat has already been lying vacant. The announcement has intensified political activity in the state.

Sources indicate that alliance partners JMM and Congress are both keen to secure a stronger position in the race. Congress is pushing for one seat, whereas JMM is considering contesting both seats. Meanwhile, the BJP has also begun working on its political calculations, setting the stage for an interesting contest.

According to the Election Commission’s schedule, voting and counting will be conducted on June 18 itself. Following the announcement, political discussions, negotiations, and strategic maneuvering have gained momentum in Jharkhand.
