High Drama in Giridih as Youth Climbs 200-Foot Mobile Tower Demanding Marriage With Girlfriend

Giridih: A dramatic scene unfolded in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Monday when a youth climbed a nearly 200-foot-high mobile tower demanding that his family arrange his marriage with his girlfriend. The incident created panic in the area and drew hundreds of villagers to the spot.

The incident took place in Motileda village under the jurisdiction of Bengabad Police Station. According to local residents, the youth, identified as Sanjay Rajak, climbed the tower early in the morning and declared that he would not come down until his marriage was fixed.

Seeing the youth sitting atop the tall structure, villagers feared a possible mishap and immediately informed the police. Soon, a large crowd gathered near the tower as the situation turned tense.

A team from Bengabad Police Station quickly reached the spot and launched a rescue effort. Police personnel, local elders and villagers repeatedly appealed to Sanjay through loudspeakers, urging him to come down safely. However, he remained adamant and continued insisting on immediate marriage arrangements.

Fourth Such Incident in Jharkhand Within 15 Days

Officials said the case is part of a growing trend of emotionally charged public incidents involving mobile towers in Jharkhand.

Just a day earlier, a woman in the Gomoh area of Dhanbad climbed a mobile tower demanding the release of her arrested boyfriend. In another recent incident in Nimiaghat area of Giridih, a married man stayed atop a tower for nearly seven hours, forcing police and local authorities into action.

According to officials, this is the fourth such incident reported in the state within the last 15 days, creating a new challenge for police and district administrations.

After several hours of persuasion and coordinated efforts involving police and local residents, Sanjay Rajak was finally brought down safely. He was later taken to the police station, where family members were called for counselling and further discussions.
