
India celebrated World Bicycle Day 2026 with a series of cycling rallies, fitness campaigns and community events held across the country under the Fit India Movement, drawing participation from citizens, sportspersons, public representatives and celebrities.
In Mumbai, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) organised a special edition of the popular ‘Sundays on Cycle’ initiative near the Worli Coastal Road. The event was attended by actor Jackie Shroff, Amruta Fadnavis and Fit India Ambassador Dinesh Shetty, who encouraged people to adopt cycling as a healthy and sustainable lifestyle choice.
Similar enthusiasm was witnessed in the national capital, where Delhi Minister Ashish Sood joined a large cycle rally in Janakpuri. He highlighted the importance of fitness-oriented initiatives and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's programmes, including Khelo India, for promoting a culture of health and wellness.
In Rajasthan's Bikaner, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal flagged off a district-level cycling rally involving students, youth, police personnel and local residents. The event focused on spreading awareness about physical fitness and environmental conservation.
Madhya Pradesh also joined the nationwide celebrations, with Minister Vishwas Sarang participating in a cycling event in Bhopal. Officials linked the initiative to the broader goals of Mission LiFE, which promotes environmentally responsible lifestyles and public well-being.
Actor Vikrant Massey took part in the 77th edition of ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’, describing the experience as a nostalgic reminder of childhood days spent cycling with friends. He urged people to prioritise their health and embrace active lifestyles.
In Kolkata, a cycle rally was flagged off from Yuva Bharati Krirangan by Union Minister Nisith Pramanik, former cricketer and minister Ashok Dinda, and AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey. Speakers praised the nationwide reach of the campaign and its role in promoting sports and fitness.
Ahmedabad witnessed a city-wide cyclothon under the Fit India initiative, with BJP MP Dinesh Makwana stating that the event brought together civic authorities, sports bodies and community organisations in support of healthier living.
Meanwhile, in Jammu, cyclists from various age groups—including children, women, senior citizens and youth—participated in a rally organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Officials said the event reflected the inclusive nature of the Fit India campaign.
The coordinated celebrations across states underscored the growing popularity of cycling as a fitness activity while reinforcing the government's efforts to encourage healthier lifestyles, environmental awareness and greater public participation in fitness-related programmes.
