Jamshedpur: Train movement across the South Eastern Railway (SER) zone is likely to be affected between May 12 and 16 due to major non-interlocking (NI) work being carried out at Rupsa Yard under the Kharagpur division.
The ongoing infrastructure and signalling upgrade is expected to impact several long-distance trains passing through the Chakradharpur division, including important Rajdhani and Express services.
Railway officials said the work is aimed at improving signalling efficiency and strengthening track infrastructure to ensure safer and smoother train operations in the coming days.
During the maintenance period, a number of trains are expected to depart late from their originating stations. The Anand Vihar Terminal–Puri Neelachal Express on May 12 is likely to leave around 90 minutes behind schedule. The Bhubaneswar–New Delhi Rajdhani Express on May 14 and 15 may depart nearly an hour late, while the New Delhi–Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express leaving on May 16 is expected to run around two hours behind schedule.
The delays could also affect train timings at key stations in the Chakradharpur division, including Tatanagar, Chakradharpur and Rajkharsawan, resulting in longer waiting times for passengers.
As summer holiday and wedding season travel continues to increase passenger traffic, railway authorities have advised commuters to check updated train schedules before travelling.
Passengers have been asked to use the NTES app and Railway Helpline 139 for real-time updates. Regular announcements regarding revised schedules and delays will also be made at stations.
Railway officials said the temporary inconvenience is necessary to improve long-term railway operations and passenger safety. Once the work is completed, the upgraded system is expected to ensure smoother train movement across the section.
