NI work at Rupsa yard to hit train services

Jamshedpur: Train services on the South Eastern Railway network are set to face disruptions from May 12 to 16 due to a major non-interlocking (NI) work underway at Rupsa Yard under the Kharagpur division.

The technical and infrastructural upgrade will impact the movement of several long-distance trains passing through the Chakradharpur division, including key Rajdhani and Express services.

Railway officials said the NI work is being carried out to strengthen the signalling system and track infrastructure, aimed at ensuring safer, faster and smoother train operations in the future.

However, during the maintenance period, several trains will operate behind schedule from their originating stations.

According to railway sources, the Anand Vihar Terminal–Puri Neelachal Express on May 12 will depart around 90 minutes late, while the Bhubaneswar–New Delhi Rajdhani Express on May 14 and 15 is expected to leave nearly an hour behind schedule.

Similarly, the New Delhi–Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express departing on May 16 will run around two hours late from its originating station.

The delayed departures are likely to affect train timings at major stations under the Chakradharpur division, including Tatanagar, Chakradharpur and Rajkharsawan, leading to longer waiting hours for passengers.

With summer vacations and wedding season travel at its peak, railway authorities have advised commuters to remain alert and check the latest train status before starting their journey.

Passengers have been urged to use the official NTES app and Railway Helpline 139 for real-time updates.

Announcements regarding delays and revised schedules will also be made regularly at railway stations.

Railway officials maintained that the temporary inconvenience is essential for long-term operational improvement and enhanced passenger safety.

Once completed, the upgraded signalling and track system is expected to streamline train movement across the section.
