Thunderstorms, gusty winds to lash Jharkhand till May 5

Jamshedpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a spell of relatively cooler weather across Jharkhand, accompanied by scattered rainfall and thunderstorms with gusty winds over the next few days.

According to official data, Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 33.6°C, around 3.5°C below normal, while the minimum dropped to 19.0°C, also below the seasonal average.

 Jamshedpur witnessed a sharper dip, with the maximum settling at 32.0°C—about 7.3°C below normal—along with 19.2 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.

Daltonganj remained the hottest location in the state at 35.0°C, whereas Lohardaga recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 18.5°C.

Rainfall activity remained widespread, with Manihari in West Singhbhum receiving the highest precipitation at 41.2 mm, followed by Seraikela (37.5 mm) and Godda (34.2 mm). 

Ranchi recorded 4.4 mm rainfall during the same period.
Reduced visibility was also reported in Jamshedpur, dropping to 800 metres during the morning hours. 

Data from Automated Weather Stations (AWS) indicated moderate temperatures across districts, including Bokaro at 30.2°C and Gumla at 34.0°C. 

Several areas such as Baharagora, Darisai, and Khunti experienced light to moderate showers.

Forecast Outlook:

May 2: Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) likely at isolated places, except northwestern parts of the state.

May 3: Similar conditions expected, except over western Jharkhand.

May 4–5: Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds likely at isolated locations across the state.

May 6: No significant weather warning issued.

The prevailing atmospheric conditions indicate continued instability, with intermittent rain, lightning, and strong winds expected in parts of Jharkhand. 

Residents are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid open areas during lightning activity.
