Jamshedpur: A sudden spell of rain, hail, and thunderstorms swept across parts of Jharkhand since last evening, bringing a sharp fall in temperatures and relief from the oppressive heat. The mercury dropped by nearly 4-5°C in several areas as gusty winds and lightning marked a dramatic shift in weather conditions.
In and around Jamshedpur, Wednesday evening turned stormy with heavy showers, thunder, and hailstones pelting several localities. The change not only cooled the air but also disrupted normal activity for a brief period.
“The temperature dropped so quickly after the rain. It finally feels breathable after days of extreme heat,” said a resident of Bistupur. “We didn’t expect hail at this time. The winds were quite strong, and the lightning made it a bit frightening for a while,” said another resident from Adityapur.
The Meteorological department has warned that the weather will remain unstable over the next few days. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching up to 50–60 kmph, along with possible hailstorms, are likely at isolated places in eastern and adjoining central parts of the state on April 30.
Between May 1 and May 5, similar conditions with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected across most parts of Jharkhand, with north-western regions likely to see comparatively less impact on May 2 and 3.Residents have been advised to stay cautious, avoid open spaces during lightning, and remain indoors during intense weather activity.
