Anil Kumar Jain appointed GM of South Eastern Railway

Jamshedpur: In a significant administrative development, South Eastern Railway (SER), one of the most strategic zones of Indian Railways, has got a new General Manager. As per an order issued by the Railway Board on April 8, Anil Kumar Jain (IRSEE, 1990 batch) has been entrusted with this key responsibility following approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

A seasoned and accomplished officer, Jain brings with him extensive experience across diverse roles. He served as Divisional Railway Manager of Rajkot in 2021, where he was credited with notable operational and administrative improvements.

 He later played a pivotal role in the Ahmedabad Metro Rail project, gaining valuable exposure in modern urban transport systems.His appointment comes after the retirement of former General Manager Anil Kumar Mishra on March 31, 2026.

 In the interim, Additional General Manager Soumitra Majumdar had been holding charge of the zone.Headquartered in Kolkata, South Eastern Railway spans large parts of Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal, and is a crucial network for mineral, coal, and steel transportation. 

Jain now faces the key challenge of enhancing punctuality, improving passenger amenities, boosting freight efficiency, and accelerating infrastructure modernization. According to the Railway Board’s directive, his appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge. Expectations are high that his leadership will bring renewed momentum to the zone’s growth and performance.
