XLRI conclave explores next era of intelligent and sustainable supply chains

Jamshedpur: XLRI Jamshedpur convened the sixth edition of ClockSpeed, its flagship conclave on Operations and Supply Chain Management, bringing together eminent industry leaders and academicians for a day of thoughtful dialogue on the future of supply chains.

The conclave was inaugurated by Fr. George Sebastian, S.J., Director, XLRI, in the presence of Prof. A. Kanagaraj, Prof. Sunil Sarangi, Prof. J. Ajith Kumar, and Prof. Debashish Pradhan.

The ceremonial lamp lighting marked the beginning of an intellectually engaging programme.

In his inaugural address, Fr. Sebastian emphasized the critical role of sustained industry–academia collaboration in shaping future-ready leaders. He noted that the chosen theme resonates deeply with contemporary business realities, where organizations must continuously reconcile agility, sustainability, and technological advancement.

Prof. J. Ajith Kumar reflected on the strategic significance of supply chains in a volatile global environment.

Complementing this perspective, Prof. Sunil Sarangi invoked principles from the Agile Manifesto and the Theory of Constraints, highlighting the need for adaptability, responsible decision-making, and innovation in navigating uncertainty.

Centred around the theme “Synchronized Horizons: Integrating Agility, Sustainability, and Tech,” the conclave captured the growing emphasis on building supply chains that are not only efficient and resilient but also environmentally conscious.

The event featured two high-powered panel discussions. The first, “Smart Supply Chain – Emerging Tech in Logistics & Order Fulfilment,” brought together senior leaders from Cognizant, Tata Steel, Century Plyboards (India) Limited, West Pharmaceutical Services, and Hindustan Platinum.

The discussion examined the transition of supply chains into strategic enablers of business value, with insights on data governance, the enduring relevance of foundational principles like the “7 Rs,” and the integration of advanced technologies and multimodal logistics.

The second panel, “Strategic Green Engine – Driving P&L Growth through Circularity,” included representatives from Tata Steel, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, CGI, Cummins Inc., and Delhivery.

The conversation highlighted how sustainability is increasingly embedded at the core of business strategy, with a focus on circularity, reverse logistics, and emerging innovations such as green hydrogen, electric arc furnaces, and battery-electric mobility.

ClockSpeed 6.0 provided a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange, enabling students and participants to engage directly with industry experts and gain nuanced insights into the complexities of modern supply chains.

The conclave was coordinated by Himanshu Shekhar, Senior Manager – Corporate Relations and Placements, with the dedicated support of the PGDM (GM) Placement Committee, ensuring its seamless execution.

Through initiatives like ClockSpeed, the B-school continues to foster meaningful dialogue between academia and industry, preparing future leaders to navigate and shape the evolving landscape of global supply chains with foresight and responsibility.
