Ranchi — In a move aimed at strengthening law enforcement and modernising the police force, Hemant Soren, Chief Minister of Jharkhand, on Friday flagged off 1,485 new vehicles for the state police and laid the foundation stones for 12 modern police stations across the state.
The vehicles were flagged off from the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly premises in Ranchi.
The new fleet includes 636 four-wheeler patrol vehicles, mainly Mahindra Bolero BS-6 models, along with 849 two-wheelers, aimed at improving the mobility and emergency response capabilities of the police.
Officials said the state government has sanctioned 1,255 patrol vehicles and 1,697 two-wheelers for the police department, with Friday’s rollout marking the first phase of deployment.
Of the 636 Bolero vehicles distributed, 614 have been dispatched directly to districts, while the remaining units have been assigned to Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and other specialised police units.
According to the state Police Headquarters, the addition of these vehicles is expected to strengthen patrol operations in both urban and rural areas, enabling faster response during emergencies and improving overall policing efficiency.
Alongside the vehicle rollout, the Chief Minister also virtually laid the foundation for 12 high-tech police station buildings aimed at upgrading policing infrastructure.
These modern police stations will be built in districts including Hazaribagh, Bokaro, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Garhwa, Giridih, Palamu, East Singhbhum, Gumla, Ranchi, Dumka, and Chatra.
A key feature of these stations will be the integration of four specialised police units under one roof, which will allow citizens to access multiple police services and register complaints at a single location.
Speaking on the occasion, Soren said that modernising the police force remains a top priority for the state government to ensure a safe and secure environment for citizens.
He added that the government is working to address resource gaps in the police department by strengthening infrastructure, technology, equipment, and logistical support.
Senior officials from the state Home Department and the police administration were also present during the programme.
