Cyber Fraud Gang Member Arrested in Jhilua

Deoghar: Police have intensified action to curb the rising cases of cybercrime in the district. In this connection, a cyber criminal was arrested during a raid conducted in Jhilua village under Pathrol police station area. Fake SIM cards, a mobile phone and 3,82,320 obtained through cyber fraud were recovered from the accused.According to police, the action was taken on the instructions of SP Saurabh. The raid was conducted as part of the ongoing anti-cybercrime campaign under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police Raja Kumar Mitra. Police had received confidential information that a suspicious person near Jhilua village was withdrawing money obtained through cyber fraud using fake SIM cards.Acting on the tip-off, the police team conducted a raid and detained one person from the spot. The arrested accused has been identified as Sajid Ansari, 28, son of late Rahim Mian, a resident of Jagadih village under Karoun police station area.During the search, police recovered one mobile phone, 10 SIM cards and 3,82,320 linked to cyber fraud activities. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused used to procure fake SIM cards from Kolkata and worked for a cyber fraud gang by withdrawing the cheated money and delivering it to them.Police said the accused used to upload fake customer care numbers on Google and cheat people. He also posed as a customer care executive of PhonePe and Paytm, luring victims with cashback offers and persuading them to create PhonePe gift cards, which he later redeemed to siphon off the money.Police further stated that the accused was also involved in supplying fake SIM cards to cyber criminals and withdrawing fraud money for the gang. The investigation is underway and efforts are being made to identify and arrest other members linked to the network.
