Ranchi – The Jharkhand High Court has provided temporary relief to 22 aspirants seeking age relaxation for appearing in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission’s 14th Civil Services Examination.
Justice Ananda Sen, while hearing a plea filed by Kishore Kumar and others, directed the JPSC to accept the applications of the candidates. The court stated that although they can participate in the recruitment process, the declaration of their results and any appointment will be subject to the final outcome of the case.
The petitioners, represented by advocate Amritansh Vats, argued that as per the 2021 Recruitment Rules, the Civil Services Examination should be conducted annually. They claimed that due to delays and irregularities in conducting the exams, several candidates exceeded the maximum age limit and were denied relaxation.
The plea further noted that candidates were given age relaxation in the last two recruitment cycles. However, in the current examination, August 1, 2026, has been fixed as the cut-off date for determining the upper age limit, which has made many aspirants ineligible. The petitioners maintained that the delay was caused by the Commission and not by the candidates.
After hearing both sides, the court directed the JPSC to accept the applications to ensure the petitioners are not deprived of a chance to compete. Their candidature will remain provisional until the final judgment is delivered.
The date of the next hearing will be announced later.
The JPSC recently invited online applications for 103 vacancies under the 14th Civil Services Examination. The application process began on January 31 and will end on February 14. The last date for fee payment is February 16.
