New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected pleas challenging the Jharkhand High Court’s decision permitting the declaration of JSSC-CGL examination results and the appointment of successful candidates, stating that the High Court order required no interference.
A Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta dismissed the special leave petitions, terming the Jharkhand High Court’s ruling as “balanced and correct.”
The petitions had challenged the High Court’s decision allowing the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission to publish the final results of the Combined Graduate Level examination and move ahead with appointments, except in the case of 10 candidates whose results were kept in abeyance due to an ongoing investigation by a Special Investigation Team.
In its December 3 judgment, the Jharkhand High Court had lifted an earlier stay and directed the JSSC to declare the final results and the State Government to appoint the selected candidates. However, it specified that the results of 10 candidates allegedly involved in irregularities would remain withheld until the SIT completed its probe.
The High Court had noted that out of 28 candidates allegedly taken to Nepal to memorise question papers and answers, only 10 had qualified, and their selection would be subject to the final outcome of the investigation.
Rejecting the demand for a CBI probe, the High Court held that there was no material to suggest that the SIT investigation was compromised. It also directed the SIT to conclude the investigation within six months.
The case arose from allegations of a paper leak in the JSSC-CGL examination held in September 2024. The High Court observed that while there were allegations of malpractice and extortion by certain middlemen, there was no evidence to establish a systemic paper leak that undermined the entire examination.
