Gumla: A shocking murder case has come to light in Jharkhand’s Gumla district, where a woman allegedly killed her husband with the assistance of her lover and dumped his body in a forest, police officials said on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Budhram Tirkey (36), whose body was recovered from the Songra Pahad Kona forest near Mukunda village under Sisai police station jurisdiction. Budhram was employed as a sales manager at a local textile store.
Police said the murder was allegedly orchestrated by the victim’s wife, Ranthi Devi, along with her alleged paramour, Sitaram Oraon. The case surfaced after Budhram was reported missing by his family.
According to Budhram’s brother, Suresh Tirkey, Budhram had left home on January 2 with his wife and son, claiming they were going to meet a traditional healer. Later that day, Ranthi Devi returned home with only the child. Her evasive and inconsistent explanations regarding Budhram’s absence raised serious doubts.
After failing to locate him, the family lodged a missing complaint with the police. Shortly thereafter, villagers reported the presence of a body in a nearby forest. Police recovered the body and confirmed it to be Budhram Tirkey.
Investigators disclosed that Ranthi Devi was allegedly involved in an extramarital affair with Sitaram Oraon, which is believed to be the motive behind the crime. Preliminary investigation indicates that Budhram was attacked with a sharp weapon before being dumped in the forest.
Ranthi Devi and Sitaram Oraon have been taken into custody for questioning. Police said two additional suspects may also be involved and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
Senior police officer Suresh Prasad Yadav confirmed the developments and assured that all accused would be arrested soon.
