Delegation Highlights Tribal Issues in Assam to Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren

Ranchi - A delegation from the Tribal Coordination Committee of India (Assam) met Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren at the State Assembly today. The members briefed him on the persistent challenges faced by tribal communities in Assam, noting that government neglect there has left the community socially, economically, and educationally disadvantaged.

The delegation expressed concern that tribal groups in Assam continue to fall behind due to longstanding administrative indifference. Chief Minister Soren assured them that the Jharkhand government would initiate concrete measures to uphold the rights, identity, and welfare of these communities. He emphasized that his administration is committed to protecting tribal culture, heritage, and entitlements.

He stated that the government stands prepared to support the comprehensive development of the tribal population in Assam and announced that a Jharkhand delegation would soon visit the state to assess the ground situation.

The Chief Minister reiterated the demand for Scheduled Tribe status for tribal labourers working in Assam’s tea gardens and affirmed that the Jharkhand government would work towards securing higher daily wages and resolving land-related challenges for these communities.

The delegation highlighted that tribal families from Jharkhand were taken to Assam during British rule, but continue to face discriminatory treatment. They urged the Chief Minister to represent their cause at both state and central levels.

The meeting was attended by Tribal Welfare Minister Chandra Linda and several representatives of the committee, including Jiten Kerketta, Birsa Munda, Tarun Munda, Ganesh, Ajit Purti, Rajesh Bhuri, Babulal Munda, and Mangal Hembram.
