Jharkhand High Court Questions JSSC Over Discrepancies in Revised Teacher Recruitment Results

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday sought answers from the JSSC after allegations surfaced regarding major inconsistencies in the revised results of the Assistant Teacher recruitment exam for Mathematics and Science.

Taking note of widespread complaints, the court said the discrepancies raised doubts about the fairness of the recruitment exercise. Justice Ananda Sen remarked that the information placed before the court showed several cases where candidates with higher marks were dropped, while those with lower marks were included in the final list.

The JSSC has been directed to explain the rules, parameters, and evaluation method used to prepare the revised merit list.

The petition, filed by Kishore Kumar and several other candidates, states that they were initially shortlisted and called for district-level counselling, where their official scores were shown. Despite this, the revised list reportedly removed many higher-scoring candidates while retaining lower-scoring ones.

Their lawyer, Advocate Chanchal Jain, presented 15–20 examples highlighting the irregularities. The petitioners further submitted that they ranked high within their respective categories and have also qualified the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), making their exclusion unjustified.

Calling the issue grave, the court issued an interim order directing that the posts corresponding to the petitioners be kept vacant until the matter is settled. It also asked JSSC to file a comprehensive counter-affidavit detailing the basis on which the revised list was prepared.
