Ranchi: Hearing a PIL on Thursday regarding the deteriorating healthcare services and infrastructure at Ranchi’s Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), the Jharkhand High Court directed JHALSA to appoint a committee to inspect the hospital and file a report within 10 days.
The committee will verify the actual condition of fundamental hospital services—medicine supply, pathology units, trauma centre functionality, access to drinking water, sanitation standards, cleanliness, and building upkeep, among other patient facilities.
The petitioner has been told to review the affidavits filed earlier by RIMS and the state government and submit a comparative chart showing whether the improvements claimed on paper have been implemented on the ground.
A bench of Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad has fixed December 3 as the next date of hearing.
The High Court has time and again expressed dissatisfaction over the worsening state of RIMS, which continues to grapple with insufficient staff, outdated equipment, neglected infrastructure, and widespread administrative apathy.
Complaints from patients and frequent media coverage have highlighted long queues, unhygienic conditions, non-functioning machines, and overcrowding as persistent problems.
Apart from the suo motu proceedings, a separate PIL filed by activist Jyoti Sharma has also called for urgent steps, including filling vacant posts for doctors, nurses, technicians, and support staff, acquiring essential medical machinery, and upgrading the overall healthcare system.
