Ranchi — The vibrant anthem of the 4th SAAF Senior Athletics Championships, “Jharkhand Bharthey Hunkaar, Johar Johar,” has emerged as the unofficial heartbeat of the Games, uniting athletes and spectators through its rhythm, emotion, and cultural pride.
Written in Nagpuri by acclaimed lyricist Dr. Mranilini Akhouri and sung by Jyoti Sahu and Rohan Dev, the anthem blends local flavour with universal appeal. Its infectious energy, drawn from Jharkhand’s tribal traditions, has resonated powerfully both on and off the field.
Guided by the Department of Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, the anthem was crafted by professionals from Mumbai and Delhi, using local instruments like the Mandar and Nagada to create a rousing yet contemporary sound. The accompanying video captures Jharkhand’s natural beauty, traditional art forms, and sporting passion in stunning visual harmony.
The lyrics evoke Jharkhand’s pride and hospitality, extending a heartfelt welcome to athletes from across South Asia. Chief Minister Hemant Soren praised the anthem, calling it “a beautiful reflection of Jharkhand’s culture, energy, and inclusive spirit.”
What began as a ceremonial song has now become a cross-cultural phenomenon. During practice sessions, athletes from different nations were seen tapping their feet and dancing to its beat — a moment that showcased the universal language of music and sport.
As the championship unfolds, “Jharkhand Bharthey Hunkaar, Johar Johar” stands tall not just as an anthem, but as Jharkhand’s proud voice to the world, celebrating the spirit of unity through sport.
