Ranchi: Amid heightened security ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Ranchi Railway Station arrested two liquor smugglers and seized a significant quantity of foreign-made alcohol from their possession.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Kanhaiya Kumar (19) and Avinash Kumar (18), both residents of Bathauli village under Barauni police station in Begusarai district of Bihar.
According to RPF officials, the duo was apprehended on platform number one under suspicious circumstances while carrying heavy backpacks. Upon interrogation, they confessed to purchasing liquor in Ranchi and were travelling to Hathidah in Bihar, where they intended to sell it at inflated prices.
Confirming the seizure, RPF Commandant Pawan Kumar said that security personnel remain on high alert against the smuggling of contraband and human trafficking at Ranchi station. He added that special surveillance measures have been put in place to curb liquor smuggling in view of the upcoming elections in Bihar and that the intensive checks will continue in the coming days.
