Ranchi — At least five people were killed and more than 40 others injured in two separate road accidents in Jharkhand’s Godda and Ramgarh districts on Monday, officials confirmed.
In Godda, a car veered off the Mahagama–Ekchari road around 10 a.m. and fell into a deep ravine, killing three people on the spot — Jogendra Kumar Yadav, his wife Bindeshwari Devi (53), and their neighbour Kaushalya Devi (48). The victims were returning from Kahalgaon’s Ganga Ghat with holy water for the Kalash Sthapana ritual of Durga Puja and Navratri. Villagers retrieved the bodies, which were later sent for postmortem. Police and administrative teams arrived promptly to carry out rescue operations.
In the second accident, a bus collided head-on with a truck near Chhattar Mandu on the Ramgarh–Bokaro road in the afternoon. The bus driver, a female passenger, and later another critically injured passenger died. More than 40 bus passengers sustained injuries. The truck driver, who was trapped for two hours, was rescued but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The accident caused severe damage to both vehicles and a traffic jam lasting nearly three hours before police cleared the site.
