Ranchi – Kamlesh Kumar Singh, who transitioned from being a journalist to an alleged land mafia, was granted bail on Wednesday by the Ranchi High Court. Justice Sanjay Prasad’s bench approved his bail plea. Singh’s lawyer, Aman Kumar Rahul, informed that he was released on a personal bond of ?20,000.
Singh had been arrested on the night of July 26 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) following questioning in connection with a massive land scam. The agency had earlier summoned him six times. After a full day of interrogation, he was taken into custody around 8 p.m. Prior to the arrest, ED had raided his residence on June 21, during which Singh was absconding. However, the raid led to the seizure of ?1 crore in cash and 100 cartridges from his flat (603-C) at Aster Green Apartment, near Chandni Chowk, Kanke Road.
Following his arrest, Singh was interrogated by ED in three phases totaling 14 days. After completion, he was produced before the PMLA Court, which remanded him to judicial custody in Birsa Munda Central Jail, Hotwar. Officials said the magnitude of the scam requires further questioning, which will be conducted in jail with court permission when necessary.
Additionally, weapons were recovered during the raids, leading to a case under the Arms Act, later taken over by the State Investigation Agency (SIA) from ED. Singh also faces allegations of encroaching on tribal lands and illegally buying and selling land along the riverbank in Kanke.
