Deoghar: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday encouraged doctors to sharpen their clinical expertise while also developing compassionate communication skills to guide patients with empathy and care.
Speaking at the first convocation ceremony of AIIMS Deoghar, the President said that along with being competent and skilled, doctors must also aim to be good human beings who practice inclusive healthcare.
“Studying at AIIMS is seen as a mark of becoming a capable doctor,” she noted. “But to be a good doctor, one must combine clinical sharpness with emotional intelligence.”
She emphasized that while a doctor’s diagnosis and surgical approach should be clinically precise, their behavior with patients must be kind and empathetic.
“We have all met doctors who, after a brief consultation, leave patients and their families feeling reassured,” she said.
President Murmu also highlighted that the government is working to reduce the financial burden of healthcare on citizens. In this national effort, institutions like AIIMS Deoghar have a vital institutional and individual role to play.
She urged AIIMS Deoghar’s stakeholders to identify health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and work collectively to fulfill them.
"Our country has set ambitious targets in the healthcare sector. AIIMS institutions will play a key role in achieving these national objectives,” she said.
Calling medical institutions “beacons spreading light in darkness,” she encouraged them to not only provide world-class medical services at affordable costs, but also act as agents of transformation within the healthcare ecosystem.
