SC Warns Jharkhand Over Teacher Recruitment Delays, Demands Results by August 14

New Delhi – The Supreme Court on Monday came down heavily on the Jharkhand government for the prolonged delay in declaring results for 26,001 Assistant Acharya (Teacher) positions.

The court warned that if all results are not released by August 14, it would summon top state officials, including the Chief Secretary, Secretary of JSSC, Education Secretary, and Deputy Education Secretary, to appear in person before the bench on August 18.

This follows earlier directions by the apex court, where the state was ordered to complete recruitment within a month and submit a compliance affidavit. The court had also warned of contempt of court if the deadline was not met.

Advocates Gopal Sankaranarayanan and Amritansh Vats, representing the petitioners, highlighted serious discrepancies in the selection process. For instance, in Mathematics and Science (Classes 6-8), only 1,661 candidates were selected from 5,008 posts, although 2,734 were called for document checks. Several candidates scoring above the cut-off were arbitrarily excluded.

Furthermore, results for Social Science (Classes 6-8) and Assistant Acharya posts for Classes 1-5 remain unpublished.

The JSSC had initiated the recruitment in 2023, conducting exams over several phases. Despite this, there's been no definitive update on when the complete results will be released.

Adding to the court's concern was a recent submission by JSSC officials in Jharkhand High Court, claiming that full results may not be available until September 2025—a timeline the Supreme Court deemed entirely unreasonable.
