PM Modi Applauds Fish Farmer for Driving Transformation in Jharkhand’s Gumla

Bhopal — In his latest ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the inspiring journey of Om Prakash Sahu from Jharkhand’s Gumla district, once a region plagued by Maoist unrest but now witnessing signs of progress and peace.

PM Modi narrated how Sahu, a young man from Basia block, turned away from the path of violence despite immense pressure. Choosing resilience over retaliation, he ventured into fish farming, slowly building a movement that encouraged others in his community to find purpose in peaceful livelihoods.

With the help of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, Sahu gained access to training, infrastructure, and financial resources. His efforts resulted in the establishment of numerous fishponds in the region, providing employment to locals.

“Today, over 150 families in Basia — including many former Maoists — are now involved in fish farming, living with dignity and contributing to the economy,” Modi noted.

He emphasized that even the darkest places can be transformed when the direction is right and there’s trust in the journey. Gumla’s shift from fear to prosperity reflects the power of self-belief and government-backed development initiatives.
