Ranchi – A man was killed and two others critically injured on Friday morning when the roof of a long-abandoned government school collapsed in Ranchi.
The incident occurred around 8 a.m. in a building once used as a school but shut down years ago due to structural instability. Despite being deemed unsafe, it had become a shelter for homeless and migrant workers.
A section of the roof collapsed suddenly, trapping three people inside. Locals rushed to help and alerted police, who, along with residents, rescued the victims. One elderly man died at the scene, while the other two were taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Residents expressed frustration, saying they had repeatedly warned authorities about the danger.
In another incident in Koderma, six students and a laborer were injured when the roof of a private school collapsed amid heavy rain.
