Gold Loot Worth Rs1.5 Crore Recovered in Jamshedpur Within 18 Hours, Two Arrested

Jamshedpur — Jharkhand Police have successfully recovered gold jewellery worth ?1.5 crore that was looted from a gold trader in East Singhbhum district, within 18 hours of the incident, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Two out of three suspects involved in the robbery have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to capture the third.

The robbery occurred on Monday evening in Chakulia town, East Singhbhum. The victim, Arun Nandi, also known as Khokan Nandi, owns 'Prapti Jewellers' near Birsa Chowk in Chakulia Nagar Panchayat area of Jamshedpur.

According to police, the incident took place around 8:15 p.m. when Nandi was returning home to Mistripada after closing his jewellery store. Carrying his usual bag containing approximately 1.5 kg of gold jewellery and ?50,000 in cash, Nandi was confronted by three armed men on motorcycles near his house.

One of the assailants held a knife to his throat while another pointed a pistol at him, snatching the bag. Despite Nandi raising an alarm, the robbers managed to escape, threatening to shoot anyone who tried to intervene.

Chakulia police, led by Station In-charge Santosh Kumar, launched an immediate investigation and coordinated with police stations in neighbouring West Bengal, suspecting the robbers had fled that way.

In collaboration with West Bengal's Jambani police, authorities arrested two suspects — Mohammad Rafiq from Rafiganj (Aurangabad, Bihar) and Niranjan Gaur from Bagbeda, Jamshedpur — within hours.

The stolen gold was recovered from their possession, and both suspects are being interrogated in Chakulia. Police are conducting raids to locate the third accused, who remains at large.
