One dead as rain and thunderstorms hit the capital; trees electric poles uprooted, vehicles damaged

Ranchi: A teenage girl lost her life while two others sustained injuries as the capital was hit in the afternoon by rain and thunderstorm which was coupled with strong winds leading to the uprooting of trees and electricity poles in many areas of the capital which ultimately hit the power supply and traffic movement. 

A 13 year old girl Ritika Munda lost her life while two others sustained injuries as lighting struck near Shalimar Bazaar of Dhurwa. The injured were later admitted to Paras Hospital. In the main road of the capital also many trees fell upon vehicles parked near them due to which four-wheelers and two-wheelers were damaged. Moreover what added to the suffering of the people was due to the uprooting of poles and falling of branches on the wire electricity supply was hampered in many areas of the capital for long hauls. 

On the other hand, the sudden change in the weather conditions brought much-needed relief to the people of the capital. In the late afternoon, the mood of the weather suddenly changed in the capital and black clouds took over the sky. Such was the darkness in the day itself the people were seen plying their vehicle's headlights on. Soon it started raining which was coupled with thundering and strong winds. The Meteorological Department had already issued a yellow alert regarding the weather of Jharkhand.

IMD had issued a warning regarding thunder, rain with strong winds. Scientist at the local weather station said that there has been a change in the weather of Jharkhand due to a western disturbance due to which rain was recorded in many districts of the state.

According to the report received from the Meteorological Department, earlier the trough line was extending from sub-Himalayan West Bengal to South Odisha which at present remains 0.9 km above mean sea level from Bangladesh and its adjoining cyclonic circulation across Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha to North Coastal Andhra Pradesh due to which such weather is being seen.

According to the Meteorological Department, there will be a change in the weather in the state for the whole coming week. As per the MET, hailstorms may also occur on March 17 and 18 in the northeastern and central parts of the state (Deoghar, Dhanbad, Giridih, Dumka, Jamtara, Godda, Pakur, Sahebganj, Ranchi, Bokaro, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Khunti, Ramgarh).

Looking at this weather, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in some areas and an orange alert in some places. The Meteorological Department has urged people that kutcha houses can be affected, so try to avoid them. At the same time, crops and livestock can also be affected due to rain. 

To protect it, people have been advised to stay away from weak walls. People in the affected areas should stay indoors and harvest the crops at maturity and store them in a safe and dry place. The highest maximum temperature of 37.9 degrees was recorded at Jamshedpur while the lowest minimum temperature of 14.6 degrees was recorded at Simdega.
