Ranchi: At least 22 students belonging to St Xavier’s college in Jharkhand’s Ranchi were injured after their bus overturned in Sikkim’s Gangtok on Tuesday.
According to the police, the students were on an excursion to Sikkim. When they were returning to Siliguri in West Bengal on their way to Ranchi their bus overturned at 7th Mile in the Ranipul police station area. The injured students have been admitted at the Central Referral Hospital (CRH) at Tadong.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has said that he has spoken with his Sikkim counterpart Prem Singh Tamang for adequate treatment of injured children. “I have spoken with Sikkim Chief Minister. Adequate arrangements are being made for the medical treatment of children. I have directed RC to be ready to airlift the children. However are unable to airlift them right now due to inclement weather, so arrangements have been made there,” the Jharkhand chief minister said in a tweet.
On the other hand, political leaders cutting across party lines have expressed their concern over the incident and hoped for the speedy recovery of the injured and their safe return.
Education Minister Jaggarnath Mahto said that he has received the unfortunate news that a bus carrying students of St Xavier’s College met with an accident near Rani Bridge. He said that Chief Minister Hemant Soren is in touch with his Sikkim Counterpart.
Former Chief Minister Raghubar Das also expressed his concern over the incident and has urged Chief Ministers of both the states to look into the well-being of the students and ensure them with proper treatment.
Leader of BJP legislature wing Babulal Marandi has also expressed his concern over the incident and has prayed for the safety and well-being of all the students. He too has requested Sikkim Chief Minister to provide help and proper treatment to the students.
