Jharkhand HC questions JEPC for hiring telecom service provider to recruit teachers

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday questioned the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) after a petition was filed by Govardhan Minj and others over a tender for hiring teachers that was awarded to a telecom service provider.

Hearing the petition, the HC has issued a notice to the JEPC. Along with this, the court has sought a response from the JEPC (Jharkhand Education Project Council). According to Subhashish Rasik Soren, advocate for petitioner Minj, the Jharkhand High Court has asked the JEPC (Jharkhand Education Project Council)  as to why the tender was given to a telecom company for when the appointment was that of resource teachers. The matter was heard in the court of Justice Rajesh Shankar.

The court has directed the JEPC to file its reply in this regard within four weeks. The court has also reprimanded the JEPC for such a mistake. Petitioner Govardhan Minj had filed a petition in the Jharkhand High Court saying that Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan is being run by the Government of India, under which teachers are being appointed by the JEPC in Jharkhand.

However, the tender has been given to JMD Services for the appointment. JMD is a telecom company and is demanding cash for the appointment of teachers. The petition also mentions that the company is not taking reservations into consideration in case of the appointments.
