Christians throng Loyola ground to attend Good Friday mass

Ranchi: Christians around the city attended Good Friday for the first time in two years.

The Loyola Ground in Purulia Road of the capital saw a massive gathering of around 10,000 to 15,000 people who attended the auspicious mass.

Post lockdown this was the first time that Easter mass was held offline.

The mass was conducted by Archbishop Felix Toppo and the Parish Priest of St Mary’s Cathedral along with other priests.

Good Friday is observed as the day of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. Christians observe the day by fasting and attending church services or re-enactments of Jesus Christ’s last hours.

It is followed by Easter Sunday which commemorates Jesus Christ’s resurrection from death. It is believed that after his death and burial, he rose from the grave on a Sunday.
