2,48,244 occupancy recorded in the state’s shelter homes in the last one year

Ranchi: On Wednesday, under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAYNULM), DMA Director Vijaya Jadhav and Chairman of State Level Shelter Home Monitoring Committee AK Pandey 2 rescue vehicles were dispatched to easily reach the helpless and homeless shelterless to various shelter homes operated in Ranchi Municipal Corporation area. Assistant Director Yogendra Prasad, State Mission Manager Kumar Bam, HDFC Bank Regional Marketing Officer Parvinder Singh and Branch Manager Shubheshwar Jha were prominently present on the occasion. It was given and directed that the homeless and helpless people should be taken to the shelter home by regularly visiting places like major roads, markets, railway stations, bus stands of the city.

In view of the severe cold weather in the state, as per the directions of the Director, Directorate of Urban Administration, Urban Development and Housing Department, Jharkhand, campaign is being run by all the bodies especially at night and take the homeless and destitute people sleeping in the open to the shelter home. They are being given support to live.

For this, under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM), the system of free shelter homes set up for the homeless, operating in various municipal areas across the state, has been made more agile than before by the state government being done. This special campaign is being implemented with more speed in view of the cold weather.

At present, there is a provision of 1,585 beds in a total of 56 shelter homes set up in 32 municipal bodies of the state. Out of these, at present a total of 10 shelter homes are being operated in Ranchi Municipal Corporation area, out of which 9 are male and 1 female shelter. Shelter homes are being operated at Ranchi’s ITI Bus Stand, Bakri Bazar, Birsa Munda Bus Terminal, Dhurva Bus Stand, Jagarnathpur, Karbala Chowk, RIMS, AG Mod Doranda and Madhukam. Adequate facilities like room heater, bed, locker, blanket, RO fresh water are available to prevent frost. Arrangements for a safe environment have been ensured in the shelter home. Along with this, the facility of joining various social security schemes is being provided for the homeless and helpless people living here.

People sleeping on footpaths are being taken to shelter homes at various squares and squares of the city. In all the municipal bodies of the state, complete information is also being given regarding the shelter homes targeted to the helpless and needy and the general public. In this context, promotional activities are being organized regularly like mic announcement, hoarding and flex, poster, radio jingle broadcast etc. They are also being told how many shelter homes are there in the municipal area by the government and Where are they located where there is free accommodation for them. There is a provision of blankets, beds, water, electricity etc. in these shelter homes, so please do not sleep on the road and go to the shelter home and take shelter.

The needy and helpless people are being rescued and taken to shelter homes. In the capital Ranchi, a team of five officers of Ranchi Municipal Corporation has been formed to monitor these night shelters in the Municipal Corporation. Apart from this, about 25 field staff have also been deployed who inspect the night shelters every night. A total of 56 shelter homes set up in various municipal bodies across the state have a provision of about 1585 beds. Each municipal area has different achievements. There are 10 shelter homes operating under Ranchi Municipal Corporation. Talking about its achievements, from January 2021 to December 2021, about 26,563 occupancies has been recorded which in itself is a great achievement.
