BJP delegation meets GUV demanding chair of Leader of Opposition for Babulal Marandi

Ranchi: A delegation of the BJP led by state unit president and Rajya Sabha MP Deepak Prakash called on Governor Draupadi Murmu at the Raj Bhawan here and handed over a memorandum demanding that Babulal Marandi be declared the Leader of Opposition in the state.

The state president said that the Hemant government was killing the democracy as the intentions of the government was not correct as far as the declaration of the leader of the opposition was concerned. He said that the Chief Minister wants to run the Assembly without the leader of opposition and on several occasions by his statements the intention has been made clear.  He also alleged that it appears that on the directions of the state government the assembly speaker is also not making an announcement in this regard.

He said that on February 11, 2020 the JVM-P had officially merged with the BJP and even the election commission had recognised this merger on March 6. He pointed that during the elections for the Rajya Sabha Babulal Marandi was recognised as a BJP MLA whereas two other MLAs who were sacked from the party including Pradeep Yadav and Bandhu Tirkey their decision to merge the JVM-P with the Congress has been rejected by the election commission and the symbol of comb has been also frozen.

Mr Prakash said that at present BJP has 26 MLA in assembly and despite fulfilling all the criteria the speaker was not declaring the leader of the opposition. He said that the ruling party was making a mockery of democracy therefore the party had decided to come to the constitutional head to intervene in the matter.
