Mumbai: Bhojpuri superstar and actor-politician Dinesh Lal Yadav, popularly known as Nirahua, has responded to the recurring criticism that Bhojpuri cinema objectifies women and promotes vulgar content, saying it is unfair to judge an entire film industry based on a limited number of films.
Speaking to IANS, Nirahua said every film industry produces a wide range of content and Bhojpuri cinema should not be viewed differently from Bollywood, South Indian or Marathi cinema.
"I believe every industry creates all kinds of films and content. Whether it is Bollywood, South Indian cinema, Bhojpuri cinema or Marathi cinema, each serves different sections of the audience," he said.
Referring to the perception that Bhojpuri films are largely associated with objectionable content, the actor said such an image develops when attention is focused only on one category of films while ignoring the rest.
"When only a particular kind of work is highlighted, people begin to think that is all the industry has to offer. That is not true. Every industry produces both good and bad content," he added.
Nirahua also stressed that no film industry is free from shortcomings and isolated examples should not define an entire fraternity.
Quoting a Hindi saying, he remarked, "Every person has flaws. Show me a garden where roses grow without thorns." He added that selective attention to certain content often creates a distorted public perception.
One of the biggest names in Bhojpuri cinema, Nirahua has delivered several popular films, including Nirahua Rickshawala, Nirahua Hindustani, Patna Se Pakistan, Border, Sipahi, Jigarwala and Nirahua Chalal London. His on-screen pairing with actress Amrapali Dubey has also enjoyed widespread popularity among audiences.
Beyond Bhojpuri cinema, Nirahua has also expanded into Hindi entertainment. He was recently seen in the second season of the OTT series Gram Chikitsalaya, where his performance received positive feedback from both viewers and critics. The series also features Amol Parashar, Vinay Pathak and Akanksha Ranjan.
