Shreya Ghoshal Reveals the Art of Capturing Emotion and Detail in Every Song

Mumbai — Renowned playback singer Shreya Ghoshal recently opened up about the depth of observation and continuous learning that shape her vocal expression, especially while singing in multiple regional languages.

Speaking during her busy international tour schedule, Ghoshal shared that her approach goes far beyond just hitting the right notes. She closely observes the people involved in the creation of a song—composers, lyricists, producers, and even directors—to understand the finer nuances of language and emotion. From their accents to their body language, she absorbs subtle cues that help her deliver a more authentic performance.

She explained that this process becomes particularly important when working on songs in languages like Tamil or Malayalam. By carefully studying how native speakers articulate words and express themselves, she ensures her singing aligns closely with the cultural and emotional context of the song.

For Ghoshal, inspiration is not limited to language alone. When dealing with folk-based compositions, she mentally references artists known for that style. For instance, she imagines how Usman Mir might interpret a particular phrase in a Gujarati folk song, using such insights to enrich her own rendition.

Emphasizing that learning never stops, she noted that every interaction—musical or otherwise—adds to her artistic growth. This constant evolution is what allows her to maintain precision and emotional depth across diverse genres and languages.

Meanwhile, her All Hearts Tour live album has been released under Sony Music India, capturing the energy and emotion of her global performances.
