Jennifer Lopez Opens Up About Her Fears of Going Platinum Blonde for New Film

Los Angeles — Global star Jennifer Lopez has revealed that she was initially anxious about her dramatic hair transformation for her latest movie, Kiss of the Spider Woman.

The singer and actress underwent a striking makeover to play Ingrid Luna, a glamorous fictional Hollywood star, in the film adaptation of the 1993 Broadway musical. Speaking on The Howard Stern Show, Lopez reflected on her doubts about going platinum blonde — a look she had never fully embraced before.

“I was just worried because I’d never had platinum blonde hair,” Lopez admitted. “I’d tried blonde wigs before, but they always looked terrible on my skin tone.”

She explained that the transformation required more than just a new hairstyle. “It was a whole transformation. The skin needed to be transformed too. I had to put more pink in my foundation,” she said.

The 55-year-old added that her usual makeup shades, especially lipsticks, didn’t suit the new look. Fortunately, her longtime makeup artist Scott Barnes reassured her, saying, “I know how to do it. We’re going to make it beautiful.”

Lopez shared that once she embraced the look, she felt like a completely different person. “Everything changed — the way I moved, the way my hands moved, my body language, even the colors I wore. It was like I became someone else,” she said.

While she didn’t keep the platinum hair after filming ended, Lopez said she ultimately appreciated the transformation and the creative challenge it brought.

Kiss of the Spider Woman tells the story of two prisoners — a Marxist revolutionary (played by Diego Luna) and a gay window dresser (Tonatiuh) — who escape their harsh reality by imagining a glamorous film world starring Ingrid Luna.
